Living Compassion Community
A Membership for Parents
Join our growing community of compassionate parents - support designed for lifelong learners ready to integrate Nonviolent Communication more deeply into their family lives.
Have you been deeply inspired by Nonviolent Communication (NVC), but struggled to sustain it at home?
Â
Perhaps you remember the sense of euphoria after your first workshop – your heart full, your mind alive with new insights. You’ve been inspired by the philosophy, the practice, the possibility of raising your kids with empathy, honesty, and care.
And then… life happened.
You snapped at your child. Painful guilt creeps in. You freeze.
You feel that gap between what you know and what you do... and it hurts.
Maybe you found yourself thinking,
“NVC is too idealistic…”
“I’m just not good at this.”
We’ve been there too; delighting in the transformative power of NVC one moment, and feeling disheartened the next when our good intentions didn’t translate into daily life.
What we’ve learned is this:
Without regular practice in a supportive community, it’s easy to feel stuck.
As Marshall Rosenberg reminds us:
“The only way to learn NVC is to practice, practice, practice.”
You don't have to do it alone!

We parents need to be held too
With constant demands and little space for our own needs, parenting often feels overwhelming.
Lonely.
Yet we were never meant to parent alone!
We evolved in tribal societies where child-rearing and emotional regulation were shared responsibilities.
Modern isolation from extended family and community undermines this natural support system, leaving us people - especially us parents - without the emotional and practical help we need. Â
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) has shown us a pathway to more authentic, compassionate connection. But it’s not a tool to be mastered in isolation. It lives and breathes in community:
“We can only really give in a loving way to the degree that we are receiving similar love and understanding. That’s why I strongly recommend that we look at how we might create a supportive community for ourselves... who can give us the understanding we need to be present to our children in a way that will be good for them and good for us." - Marhsall Rosenberg
To show up for our children with empathy and presence, we need spaces where we are received with empathy and presence.Â
We need places where we can be real.
Where we can fall apart and be heard.
Where we can practice, reflect, and begin again.
One of the most powerful ways we can care for ourselves - and, in turn, our children - is by receiving empathic presence when we’re struggling.Â
Anne Lamott says it this way:
"The very most profound thing we have to offer our children is our own healing."
“That’s why I strongly recommend that we look at how we might create a supportive community for ourselves...
who can give us the understanding we need to be present to our children in a way that will be good for them and good for us.”– Marshall Rosenberg

"Sally and Jorinde have a special way about them. They have a magical ability to make you feel so comfortable that it enables you to break through the discomforts of sharing but this in turn creates such growth for deep reflection, growth and change within self, relationships and family life."

Gift Economy
All of our programmes and services are offered on a gift economy (pay what you are able/willing) basis. This means we invite people to choose an amount to contribute that feels comfortable for them, without stretching into hardship, while also helping us continue the work so that others may benefit.
We would love for our offerings to be received as a gift, and we hope participants can see their financial contribution in the same way.
Currently, we are able to offer reduced fees of NZD $25 per month thanks to the generosity of members of our Circle of Support, who have chosen to help parents experiencing financial hardship, to participate in our courses.
If paying the standard membership fee would be difficult for you financially, we warmly invite you to receive this gift and choose the reduced-fee option.
All prices are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD); as a rough guide, USD and EUR are approximately half the NZD amount.
If none of the available options are accessible to you, please contact us. We want this work to be accessible to all.
